Jails and prisons are the worst place to experience a world-wide pandemic. Everything guiding the philosophy of those institutions promote the spread of infectious disease. Unsurprisingly, COVID outbreaks in prisons are a frequent headline in papers and on websites throughout the country. Because of Oklahoma's strong preference for incarceration, COVID is also a reality in our state's institutions. Efforts to contain the outbreaks are hindered by numerous obstacles but the major issue remains the refusal of those with authority to limit and reduce the number of individuals currently incarcerated.
